Furry Friends

Sunday, February 22, 2009

Yesterday, we vended at the Furry Friends Festival. I was impressed with the way the event came off. There was a steady flow of people (and dogs) throughout the day - live entertainment every hour, silent auctions and many craft vendors. The kids were easily amused during the event and Robbie walked away with a fair amount to help the local animal shelter.

Our task this week will be to determine how we can make the most of the money we have and hopefully get it to the shelter (that might be an event for the weekend).

We sold two different catnip toys. My Scrappy Catnip Monsters and some Eyeball Catnip Toys. I had thought that the eyeball idea was unique... but it turns out that someone on Etsy all ready makes them (a customer mentioned it) - so you won't be seeing them in my store. The idea came to me when I was sewing the one eye onto each of the round little monsters. Perhaps I had seen them somewhere else (Etsy?) and tucked it away so that it could emerge when I least expected it. Regardless, they went over well and they are fun to make. While making them - I also had the idea of filling them with potpourri and selling them for sock drawers :) I love the idea - so you may see those coming from me some day! Anyhow, if you like the little eyes - check out the Etsy shop selling them!
As soon as we figure out what to do with the proceeds from this weekend, I'll post it here. It was a good day though and I think it will ultimately make this experience of helping animals a little more meaningful than just giving him money without him seeing where the money came from.

We sure had fun visiting you! I'm glad the rest of your day went well. Courntey loved her "eyeball" pincushion and Oscar liked his eyeball catnip toy.

See you soon,

Trina
