Growing a garden

Each year we get to know our backyard a little bit better and how to grow our own veggies in it. Our backyard gets really hot and it's small, so there are areas against the fence that don't get much direct sun. So, we've had varied success in growing back there. This year, it seems that the veggies that I don't eat are doing the best. Go figure. Zucchini and tomatoes are growing like crazy. Carrots are slow and peppers are stunted. Oh well! At least this year we are home to enjoy them. I think the kids and I will make some zucchini bread... anyone have a good recipe?
Trying a carrot. He's learning how to tell when a carrot is done - this one was still a bit small... but we tasted it to see how they tasted anyway. It was still good - and this was their first carrot straight out of the ground. We are already making plans of what we'll try next year, what worked this year and what didn't work and why. I'm thinking we might have to give potatoes a try (even if I can't eat them right now)
