Polka Dot Party

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Sunday, we celebrated my daughter's birthday with a Polka Dot Party. It was lots of fun. While I didn't serve nearly the amount of food that I have in the past (it's hard to come up with circular food that doesn't have to be "cooked") - I was pleased with the way it all came out. I served three different types of round sandwiches (egg, PB&J and ham and cheese), a cold tortellini salad with string cheese circles, ham circles, and peas, round tortilla chips and salsa, cheese and crackers, and cantaloupe balls and grapes (the kids had a great time with the toothpicks).

I used a white table cloth and cut polka dots for underneath the food. It went great with my decorations which included a banner, circle mobiles and a wall of dots to cover our clutter.

I only had a few activities for the kids (I mean, she only turned 3 after all). One was a bean bag game - the other was decorating plain party hats with dot stickers. I was pleased that all the kids (and some adults) participated and created some wonderful hats. Party hats was one of my daughter's requests for her party (candles, cake, party hats and presents).

We forgot to give out several of the favor bags - but I was still pleased with the way they came out. I had Lyssie (with Robbie helping) decorate the bags with polka dot stickers and we filled them with polka dot bean bags, bubbles, a bouncy ball and some yo-gos.

All in all, it was a great party and most importantly, Lyssie seemed to be having a great time. This party did make me realize that lack of friends that are girls - but she didn't seem to notice. I'll try to find a better picture of her party dress. She looked so cute in her pink polka dot dress, butterfly pony tails (grandma curled her hair for the first time) and the cutest necklace made by one our our Etsy friends (thanks Marlo - it was perfect!).

kayce, it looks lovely and i really like your party favours. All of Freddie's friends are born around this time of year and the plastic stuff we come home with you wouldn't believe! That and the sweets... Bridget
