Obsessed with Buttons
Tuesday, May 5, 2009
This weekend, I made two trips to Creation Station... both times, I came home with buttons. I also received a few sets of buttons that I had ordered from Little Red Cottage on Etsy.
While it's true that I have been using them... they are building up much faster than I can use them. But yet, I don't care. I still feel like I need more, more, more! I think it happens when I find cool buttons like the one above. The cool thing about this button is that the other side, when turned over, looks just like a tree stump... with the circles and everything. I love that!
I currently have two bins of buttons - two ridiculously large bins of buttons. I justify it to myself because the kids love playing with them so it's a great sensory activity... they love to sort them, and I do use them to make things that actually sell.
Sometimes when I'm feeling down... I imagine going and buying buttons. Silly, I know. But they really are great. A friend of mine pointed out that it must be something that comes from childhood because they are comforting to me. I think she's right.
When I was young, we used to visit my grandmother in Salinas (we frequently attended her church). Along Main Street in Salinas, there was a fabric store that my mom used to take me to. My recollection (whether it's accurate or not, I'm not sure) was that upstairs, they had this great big button bin. A bin where you could run your hands through tons and tons of buttons. I'm not sure if the buttons were off their cards... or if they had cards attached - but regardless, I still remember that bin and my love for it.
Now I have one (or two) of my own and my kids can grow up with a similar experience. No real point to this blog... just wanted to gush about buttons.
Oh - Happy Cinco De Mayo!
