My biggest give away - help spread the word!
Thursday, January 8, 2009
Leave a comment on this blog telling me how you might be affected by this new legislation.
For every blog you write from now until January 16th, you'll get an entry into my give away (please leave your blog address in comments so that I can verify).
If you vote at Change.org, let me know by leaving a comment on this blog and you'll gain an entry into the give away (this one is by honor system).
If you do something else to spread the word, let me know in the comments section of this blog and I'll give you another entry.

Mermaid tail in orange (the one pictured in the bottom right corner)

or a crown of your choice (all are listed here). **The one pictured has been sold **
or a set of Primary Color I-spy bean bags
or this pin cushion and fabric weight set made from fleece scraps

or this Darth Vader NuetToMe dress made from Recycled tshirts - dress is a size 2T-3T. The pocket in the middle is for decorative purposes - little hands probably won't fit in it, but little treasures will.
The winner will be chosen randomly on Saturday, January 17th. You have until 9:00 PST on January 16th to enter. The winner will choose one of the above items and I will ship it to you free! Because of International shipping charges, I am only opening this to US residents.

What fun!
I blogged about the CPSIA. And I posted it here, too.
I voted at change.org
I wrote to my Congressman.
I wrote to my Senators (Kay Bailey Hutchison sent back a form letter that clearly shows that neither she nor her staffers actually READ constituents' emails).
I wrote to Bush, Cheney, and Obama.
I posted on Facebook.
I've discussed it on Twitter, various other blogs, forums, mailing lists, and I've bugged family and friends to write their elected officials, too.
In short, I've been so active since learning of this I've even been suspected of being a lobbyist.
(See comments here.) :)
It will affect me because I buy majority of my children's clothing at Thrift shops.
I helped spread the word by voting on Change.org.
I also emailed numerous Sentors, and representatives, and also President-elect Barack Obama.
I also signed plenty petitions.
We really need to do EVERYTHING possible to keep handmade kids stuff alive! Etsy needs to contact Good Morning America, Today Show, Martha Stewart show, etc.
Dylan still hasn't taken off his super-hero gloves and mask that you made but the light saber from TrU was set down in the 1st hour. Yes, he's been wearing them since Christmas :)
I voted at change.org
and posted the video from there and made comment on my facebook
I like your "save handmade toys" image on your blog...
Let's see. I've posted on facebook, linked it up on my blog (but you'll have to take my word for it - it's a private kind of for-the-grandparents blog ), sent out a couple e-mails with links to the laws, voted at Change.org, signed a petition and e-mailed my senators and representative (who is starting her first term and had nothing to so with it.) I also looked at the voting record for both Congress and the House, and was shocked at the overwhelming support this had. You would think someone would have foreseen this.
And I really have to say - your stuff is just beautiful and creative. I have a friend who sells it in her store, and when she showed it to me the first time I was all "Oh! World of Whimm! I lover her stuff! and my friend was like "You know her stuff already?!" Yesss! I want to keep you in business, for sure.
I love these items
This will affect our family if this law does pass. We buy most of our clothes from Thrift Stores and Rummages sales...yes, I hear that rummage sales are not going to sell children's clothes either unless tested... I also sell my son's clothes that he has outgrown at rummage sales to make extra money to buy him more... If this does pass then something is seriously wrong...with the economy the way it is already who the heck can afford to buy "brand new" children's clothes with how fast they outgrow them??

My daughter would love that mermaid tail!!
I will be affected also because I buy all my kids things at thrift stores. I would think the law would only apply to new clothes/toys from large distributers, not used items or items made by small distributors. I am sure the wording could be changed.
