It's only the beginning

I'm proud of myself... I have already sewn together the first 70 squares of my charm quilt - yay! I finally settled on a pattern of alternating charm square and beige squares. I chose this pattern for many reasons;

1 - it was a pattern where I could start sewing without knowing what all the pieces would look like - this way I didn't have to wait to have all of them first.
2 - I could sew them by chaining them together and saving myself time - I'm so used to having to sew things one at a time that this was a big motivator for me.
3 - it's a simple pattern that my kids will be able to help me lay it out and figure out the final look of the quilt. Always thinking of way to involve the kids!
4 - it's a pattern that plays into my son's obsessiveness or orderly thinking. In times of stress, this is a comfort for him. I'm hoping that he'll find the finished quilt comforting.
5 - i really like the look of it.

I've included a picture of the ironed pieces with a sneak peak of what it will look like in the background. I just received two more envelopes yesterday (some fun oriental patterns included) and look forward to adding those to the pile of finished pieces.
Once I get a few more envelopes, I'll start sewing them into squares. I'm finding that I like the white backgrounds next to the beige fabric less than the colored ones - so I'm setting those aside for now and I'll use them if I need more squares. There aren't very many of those yet, so I don't think it's going to make a huge impact if I don't use them. And I can always use them for something else.
I'll post a list of other participants soon so you can check out the others. It's a fun group and I look forward to seeing what everyone else does with all the squares.
