New Years "I will attempt to try" List
Friday, January 18, 2008
Yep, don't want to over commit. This is one of the wise things my husband says. It really drives me crazy when he says he'll "attempt to try". I think it's a bit like saying "yes, I'd really like to do that, but I don't see it happening within a time frame that would make you happy."
And this is how I feel about my list of things I feel I need to accomplish in 2008. I might be a step ahead of my husband though... because even though the odds are stacked against me (the odds consisting of two little children), I'm determined to accomplish all of these; some way, some how!
1 - Blog more! I love blogging both on my personal blog and on my crafty blog. I just don't always have the energy. Not to mention that I always have great topics to blog about... until I'm in front of the computer with two children hanging off me.
2 - Since I'm in the early stages of this business. Be organized! I can do it. I know I can. And I'm not so far into it that I have to competely dig myself out of a hole to get started.
3 - Be everywhere. Okay, not everywhere. But I'd really like to do some more local craft fairs this year. I did one, poorly attended one, and did well. So, I'm hoping going to a few that are attended by a reasonable amount of people... should be worth my time.
4 - Wholesale. At the end of last year, I gave up on this idea. But I get frequent enough inquiries, that I really needed to consider it again. I have worked this past week or two on developing something that I can work with. I'll be taking more of a cut than I'm comfortable with - but I'm trying to think of it as additional marketing for the store... getting my name in more places. I'm also sure that the seller will want their cut to be more... but they also need to remember that everything we make is handmade and often requires a lot of hand work.
5 - Balance my time effectively between crafting, family and home. That's a big one and the one I'm most concerned about.
So that's it! Seems simple enough, right. I can do it!... and I'll start tomorrow :)

Wow...first your amazing craft room makeover -- now a list of things to "attempt to try"! Awesome! Maybe we can encourage each other to work on our lists, huh? (btw, I highly recommend the book "Craft, Inc." - Etsy just reviewed it on the Storque recently. It might help with the wholesale pricing stuff. Or, you can call me :)
I would totally consider the wholesale idea. I would love to have some of your blanket and bib sets on my site (once I get it up and running). You could also do an afiliate program or drop ship.
Hope business is going well!
